We’re halfway through January and I don’t know about you, but I’m totally killing the game on some of my New Year’s Resolutions… others? Well not so much! If you read about my goals for the year, then you know I was mighty ambitious, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t achievable! So I sat down and brainstormed how you could break down any goal (no matter how big or small) to be achievable and I’m sharing my tips today!
ONE: Write it Down
I know, I know, this sounds like such a basic first step- but I truly believe that when we visualize what we want it makes such a big difference! But then friends, take it a step further and put that list where it’s in front of you on a daily basis (like your nightstand or bathroom mirror) – trust me, when you look your goals in the face daily it will make you hungry to achieve them!
TWO: Make a Roadmap for Success
Some goals are pretty self-explanatory (“go to the gym 3x per week”) but some are “Big Hairy Audacious Goals” (“grow to 20,000 Instagram followers”) and if you don’t have a plan for them it can be easy to be overwhelmed in how to achieve them. So for those big goals, break them down into smaller steps that are easier to understand. If you want to grow by an additional 15K followers how are you going to do that? Maybe you commit to joining a new giveaway each month, or challenge yourself to post 2 IG stories a day for a month- whatever you think is going to get you where you ultimately want to be! The great thing about breaking those big goals down, is that each smaller step feels like an achievement in and of itself and makes you even more motivated to accomplish the “big one!”
THREE: Pray About It
When trying to do something big in your life, the most important thing any of us can do is pray about it. There have been, and still are, big things I want to do & achieve in my life and an active prayer life grounds me and makes sure that the goals I am pursing are in line with God’s word and what he wants for my life. It’s amazing what power prayer has!
FOUR: Don’t Be Afraid to Reset
Have you ever thought something was going to make you really, really, happy and then when you get it… it just doesn’t? Yeah, sometimes goals are like that too! If one of your resolutions just isn’t working out or no longer fits with your vision for your life, don’t be afraid to redefine your dream and make a change. While my resolutions give me something to work towards I like to think of them as fluid more than hard and fast!
FIVE: Celebrate Your Successes
After you’ve been working SO hard – make sure and take time to CELEBRATE all that you’ve done!! Pop that bubbly, eat those cupcakes, and twirl around the dance floor! You deserve it!
And remember girlfriends:
YOU GO GIRL! Let’s make this year ours 🙂
