February 2018 Book Reviews + GIVEAWAY!!!

Girl Meets Bow February 2018 Book reviews

It’s so good to be “back in action” today friends and to be coming at you with a brand new book review! I always have so much fun sharing my recent reads with you & I love the ideas for new books you leave in the comments (so please leave some more today!) 🙂 Let’s get to it shall we?

After, I Do || 4.5 out of 5.0

I’m not 100% sure why I connected with this book so much , but spoiler alert: I absolutely loved it! It’s about Lauren & Ryan who are coming up on 5 years of marriage, and things are getting tough. As they are at a breaking point, they decide to take a 1 year break and live solo lives. No talking to each other, not checking in, & each is free to do whatever they want (with whoever they want)! I won’t give anything away about what happens during their year, but it is real, raw, honest, and so good. I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a book with all kinds of heart.

The Couple Next Door || 1.0 out of 5.0

This book was one of the “it” books of 2017 and seemed to top every book review I read- so I was super excited to finally read it! However, the only way to describe this book (in my opinion) was “painful.” The story was so slow, the plot kept twisting (but not in an exciting way more like a “can you just get to the point already?” way), and the characters were all so unlikeable that I couldn’t really root for anyone. BUT, I seem to be in a small minority that felt this way (I also disliked “The Woman in Cabin 10” that everyone loved too) so if you liked that one then you should love “The Couple Next Door” as well- it just wasn’t for me!

My Not So Perfect Life || 4.0 out of 5.0

It’s been awhile since my beloved Sophie Kinsella came out with a new book- but this one was worth the wait! Katie Brenner has a picture-perfect life… on Instagram! But behind the scenes, her life is anything but. She works for an evil (although fabulous) boss, is dealing with major office politics, and is struggling to get ahead, Just when she thinks things are looking up she gets fired and has no choice but to move home. When her former boss shows up at her new home turf, things get hairy and Katie starts to see that no one’s life is as perfect as it seems.

This is the very definition of chic lit and I tore through the book! It’s a light, easy read and and as the weather is warming up I think y’all would love sipping some wine on the porch and reading this book 🙂 (I sure would!)

The Secret Life of Violet Grant || 3.5 out of 5.0

Disclaimer: I’m still reading this book, but I’m so close to the end that I decided to go ahead and review it in this round of reviews. Vivian is taken by surprise when a mysterious suitcase belonging to her Aunt lands on her doorstep. As she opens it up and reviews the contents, she begins to uncover the mystery of who her Aunt was, and how exactly she disappeared. Interwoven through each chapter is Vivian’s story and the ups and downs in her own life. It’s definitely an interesting story, but for me it doesn’t always hold my attention, so it’s taken me awhile to make my way to the end. The characters talk in line with the times (1900’s and 1960’s) so that’s another challenge- getting into the way they talk!

    Ah, you are putting me to shame! I haven’t picked a book in weeks…
    My favorite thing is to read on my back porch, so maybe the weather will improve and I will get back at it!

    Oh… After, I Do sounds like an amazing book to read! I’ll be honest, The Couple Next Door sounded like it would be a great book to read, I’m glad you shared why you didn’t like it. I don’t like slow plot twists, it’s like okay we’re getting bored with it.
