Tis the season for all things holly & jolly… and that includes my movie choices! Since the warm weather here in Florida can sometimes make it hard to “feel” Christmas coming, watching my favorite Christmas movies helps to get me in the spirit! As much as I love a good Hallmark/Netflix cheesefest movie (I’ll be rounding up those faves later this week!) I thought it would be fun to kick off the season with my favorite “traditional” Christmas movies. Keep reading to see what they are!
ONE- Love Actually
No movie gets me more in the holiday spirit than “Love Actually!” Even though it’s not a traditional Christmas film- it follows the intertwined lives of the 10 main characters & their love stories- it takes place over Christmas and is such a feel good movie that I just end it full of cheer! The British accents, the snowy scenes, the love… it is so good and an all-time favorite! My favorite scene? When Hugh Grant busts out some major moves!
TWO- The Holiday
Another sweet love story that takes place over Christmastime and always puts me in the best mood! This movie tell the story of two women at cross-roads in their lives who swap homes over the holidays and find love & themselves along the way! The 4 main characters are perfectly cast and it’s full of love, humor, and sweetness that will have you wanting to travel to a quaint British bungalow for your next holiday!
Who doesn’t love Elf?? Pretty sure it’s universally adored- and for good reason! This is one of the funniest Christmas movies and follows Will Ferrell’s “elf” character as he searches for his birthfather in New York after living in the North Pole for his entire life. I always crack up as he experiences the city for the first time- from eating gum off the sidewalk to shouting “SANTA! I know him!!” This movie is sure to leave you in great spirits!
FOUR- The Grinch (both the cartoon & live action!)
Fun Fact: this is my Dad’s absolute favorite Christmas movie so we grew up watching it every year and have quite the collection of Grinch mugs, ornaments, PJs, etc as a result 🙂 The cartoon version has such a great message about the meaning of Christmas, while the live action delivers a lot more laughs before delivering a heart-warming ending. These are classic holiday films!
FIVE- It’s A Wonderful Life
Cue the waterworks with this one! A movie that will more that help you and your family re-focus on what really matters during the holiday season. While the movie is from 1946- the message of what the meaning of life is is just as relevant today. I feel like a lot of younger people haven’t seen this one and I encourage you to check it out… such a good one!
