Catchy title for today’s post, huh?! 😉
Without fail, one of the questions I got the most about attending New York Fashion week revolved around cost. I think some people assume that simply because I have a blog all my trips are comped (they are not- ha!) or that I’m rolling in the benjamins (once again, I’m not! ha) I’m an average girl, on a single salary, who has wanderlust and can never say no to an adventure! So how then, did I afford New York Fashion Week (a notoriously expensive city & event) on a budget? Keep reading to find out!
TIPS FOR ATTENDING New York FASHION WEEK ON A BUDGET:
ONE- Travel with a Friend!
Not only does traveling with a friend automatically cut your costs in half, but it gives you a built in travel buddy and someone to adventure with! As you can see from these pictures and from my stories around NYFW, Annaliese and I took on this Fashion Week together and it was such a blessing! Not only did we each bring out own ideas of what to do in the city, we were able to go “halfsies” on everything to bring costs down 50%! Another pro tip: If you are splitting everything, have one person pay for hotels, the other car transportation, and split it at the end! That way you’re not having to account for a million Uber receipts and figuring out who has to Venmo who what dollar amount!
TWO- Save on your Hotel
Hotels can potentially be one of the most expensive parts of your trip, so I always ask myself “how much time am I really going to be spending in this room?” Since Annaliese and I knew we were going to be out and about 99% of our time in the city we opted to stay in a smaller, budget-friendly hotel rather than splurging on a fancy, swanky spot! If you’re interested we stayed at The Row hotel and were thrilled with the price, location, and friendly service. The rooms are small but neat & tidy and it’s been recently renovated with modern decor and furnishings- all in all would reccomend!
THREE- Plan Expenses Ahead of Time
Before we left for NYC, Annaliese and I had some FaceTime calls where we chatted about what we wanted to do in the city, our schedule, how much we were comfortable spending on dinner, etc. This gave me a good idea of how much the trip was going to cost and allowed me to set some money aside for the weekend so that I wasn’t being hit with all the charges at one. Now, I am NOT the world’s best saver, but when you have a goal as exciting as NYFW to work towards, somehow it makes you like 100 times more motivated 😉 Hey, whatever works!!
FOUR- Price Compare
Throughout the weekend we were constantly price comparing Uber vs. Lyft. vs Cabs since we were literally trekking all over the city and couldn’t always walk everywhere. Saving $3 here and $2 there really added up when were were taking 5+ cars a day! Definitely take the extra minute or two to price compare and you’ll be amazed at how much you can save!
