Sharing the journey of finding my wedding dress and getting to say the magic “yes to the dress!”
It’s Wedding Wednesday and I couldn’t be more excited to share my journey of saying “yes to the dress” today!
Before we started, I wanted to give you a little bit of background… Rob and I got engaged 10/26/19 and originally were targeting an April wedding (that’s just 6 months for those of y’all keeping score at home!) so I knew that I needed to prioritize finding my dress as the typical timeline from finding your dress to delivery is 6 months. So my very first checklist item after getting engaged was going wedding dress shopping!
As I’m sure you can imagine (or know if you’ve been in my shoes), this was a day I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl and I wanted it to be perfect! So I grabbed my calendar, called my best gals, and started making a plan!
I started by calling my mom, sister, aunt, grandma & 3 of my besties who live locally to see what day worked best for everyone. It worked out pretty seamlessly that mid-November had a date that everyone was available, so now it was time to plan our shopping trip!
I reached out to several local Tampa wedding dress boutiques and was able to schedule multiple appointments. I had never tried on a wedding dress before (or even really thought about exactly what dress I wanted!) so I really wanted variety and the chance to try on lots of options! One boutique that I DREAMED of shopping at was The White Magnolia (funny story, I actually interviewed here several years ago, and although I obviously didn’t get the job I fell in love with the store and knew they had to be on my list of boutiques to shop at when the day came to find my dress!)
Here’s a sample of what our itinerary for the day looked like:
10-11:30 – Appointment at the White Magnolia
12-1:30 – Lunch at On Swann
2-3:30 – Appointment at Cece’s Bridal Boutique
4-5:30 – Appointment at David’s Bridal
Prior to my appointments I had to fill out online questionnaires for each shop that gave information about my wedding day, what I was looking for in a dress, price range, etc. To be honest, after filling out the forms and talking to my consultants, I was pretty realistic that my budget might not get me my dress from a local boutique (which is why I made an appointment at David’s Bridal too- I wanted to be able to see all price ranges and options!)
So then the day came… and i was SO excited! There’s nothing quite like having 6 special women in your life come together to support you and cheer you on- they mean the world to me and it was the BEST so share this day with them!
We started at The White Magnolia with the world’s best consultant, Alayna. She was not only kind, upbeat, and really listened to me and my group, but she helped us have so much fun. Based on my budget/initial questionnaire she pulled a few options for me and also let us loose in the shop to pull additional options to try. As you can see in the pictures, the store is beyond gorgeous and i loved that they had so many different types of dresses to try on- everything from simple to super-embellished, from sweet to sexy, you can get anything there!
I started by trying on Alayana’s first pick, and we all started tearing up. Y’all I looked like a BRIDE! It’s hard to explain, but seeing yourself in that dress for the first time is such an emotional experience- and when i imagined walking down the aisle to Rob… y’all I lost it! We all agreed that she knocked it out of the park with the first dress! I then tried on about 8 more- all sorts of silhouettes, shapes, design details, and more! there were two more dresses I really liked as well, but at the end of the appointment I re-tried on my top three and knew that first dress was something special. But I didn’t leave with it yet…
Since it was my first time shopping for dresses I wanted to give myself a few more options (to make sure I made the right decision/wasn’t too emotional lol) and Alayna was totally supportive! She let me know that I could comeback that day if I decided dress #1 was “my dress.”
My gang headed out to the yummiest lunch at On Swann, and then went to appointment #2. While it was at one of the most popular bridal boutiques in Tampa, and I tried on another 10 dresses or so, nothing quite got our reaction/emotions and I kept thinking about my first dress. By the time we left I told my Aunt to call and cancel David’s Bridal- I had found my dress!
We raced back to The White Magnolia and I was ready to say “yes!” This time was able to get “jacked up” and outfitted with a veil, jewelry, special details, etc and I KNEW without a shadow of a doubt that this was the dress I wanted to marry Rob in! And my gang agreed… let’s just say there were a LOT of tears in the room! 🙂
And funny enough- my dress came in yesterday so I get to pick it up this week! It was the most magical day getting to find my dream dress and doing so with my favorite girls. I’m still pinching myself!
What was the journey to finding your dress like?
