Yesterday I celebrated my 34th birthday, and although it was a crazy day at work, I feel so thankful to have spent the day with my people! Eliza’s been going through a rough sleep patch and she actually slept through the night (praise!) and then my team sent me a sweet card at work, and then Rob made sous vide steaks for dinner with the yummiest mushrooms and my sister came over to celebrate with us. It was low key and perfect for ringing in my next trip around the sun!
I’ve managed to still find some fun things to share with y’all- so let’s get to the Friday Five Happy Hour!
ONE // The Lobotomist’s Wife
I went to NY last week for a quick overnight trip for work and read this book on the way back! It is about the wife of the doctor who brought the lobotomy to the US back in the 30s/40s and that maybe he got a little too obsessed with giving them to draw the line between right and wrong. It’s not the kind of book I normally read, but it sounded interesting and it was free w/ Kindle Unlimited so I gave it a try and im glad I did! It was an interesting story and one that I never would have really thought to dig into before. I felt the overall pace was a little slow for my liking, so I’d give this a 3/5 stars.
TWO // It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
This is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read, and I realized that it had been several years since I last read it, so on that same trip to NY I decided to re-read it. Boy it did not disappoint! It’s a hard book to put into a quick summary, but basically its about a girl’s first love, her relationship with her dad, and how both of those entertain with her current love life and force her to reevaluate and make some potentially hard choices. It’s a page-turned, and just an amazing and powerful story. Trigger warning: does contain scenes of abuse. No secret that I give it a 5/5!
THREE // Target Summer Dress Find!
Run, don’t walk, to scoop up this perfect summer dress! I bought this 2 years ago in 2 colors, then grabbed black last year and wore this dress home from the hospital. I was thrilled to see it back again with even more new colors! I scooped up this hot pink and love it! I wore this for everything from cocktails to church- it’s so good! And pro tip: I’ve been signing up for “restock alerts” on Target.com to snag things selling fast!
FOUR // Palm Beach Amazon Dress
My friend Jill (The Lovely Flamingo) wore this dress to Eliza’s first birthday party and I loved it! Totally thought it was designer because it’s so chic on. I about fell over when she said it was from Amazon! I can’t wait for mine to get here 🙂 mamas ready to feel fabulous!
FIVE //
Now that Eliza is one our doctor said we need to start brushing her teeth “for real” twice a day. We found the cutest flamingo toothbrush for her that will make this more fun for everyone! It also comes in a few other animals as well but you know we had to get our girl the flamingo!
