Hustle Culture

Recently I saw an IG reel that talked about if you have a dream or a goal, you shouldn’t let anything or any excuses stand in your way- basically you should “hustle harder”. I was really motivated by it, and the idea that nothing should slow me down from reaching for my goals, but when I shared a little about this on stories, I was kind of amazed by the array of feedback I got! Mainly mamas in  similar season of raising our little’s who said it absolutely IS ok to slow down and that hustling harder is not a requirement for success. And since then I’ve just been turning over both schools of thought in my mind, trying to figure out what feels best for me.

I’ve always been a goal-oriented, Type A Overachiever by nature, so when I had Eliza and suddenly she consumed my 24/7, I always kind of forgot what it was like to have goals and plans for me. Now that life has settled down a little, and we’ve got our rhythm, I’ve had some personal goals bubbling back to the surface… but goodness that time just isn’t there anymore. There are not enough hours in the day! So that’s why I was struck by the simple encouragement to “hustle harder” – but what if that isn’t the answer?

I wish I could say I had a perfect answer, or that I’ve figured it out, but I just haven’t! Would love to hear your thoughts on the topic and if you believe in “hustle culture.” Let me know in the comments below!

LOVE this sunny dress on you! And I hear ya on not knowing the right answer – part of me wants to hustle and reach goals, and the other part wants to enjoy the things that truly matter and be fully present. It’s a balancing act <3

  2. You make a good point! I think it’s good to always have your eye on the goal with the idea that it’s ok to let yourself take a break at times. Does that make sense? You look lovely in that dress! I love the embroidery!

Super cute dress, Gentry! Interesting topic too – these days I see everything from some Millennials posting about the need for hustle culture and holding down a corporate job + 1 or more passion projects and families to others getting completely burned out trying to achieve an image they think they want. I also see some Gen Z’s stating they are “quiet quitting” and doing the bare minimum to get a paycheck so that they can spend more time enjoying life. My personal opinion is that there has to be a balance and that working hard + being proud of your hard work and accomplishments is completely okay…but burnout is not…and the balance is different for everyone!

I hope you are having a great week so far!
