Newborn Must Haves

Hey y’all! Almost three weeks into this whole parenting gig and there are so many products that Rob and I keep saying “we couldn’t live without these!” As a new parent there are so many things you’re told are must-haves, and it’s hard to sort out what you really need until you are living with a newborn. So I hope that today’s post will help my mamas-to-be distinguish what you really need 🙂 From one new mom to another!!

For Baby:

Swaddle Me Easy Change Swaddles– Eliza broke out of every single fabric swaddle that I put together, so these have two major benefits. 1) she can’t break out of them as they are velcroed in place & 2) they again make late night diaper changes so much easier because you can just unzip the bottom, change the diaper, and re-zip without having to unsaddle baby!

Dock a tot/ Lounger– This saved our booty more times than I can count in Eliza’s first two weeks! While the loungers are technically not rated for sleep (so don’t leave them in overnight or unsupervised!) she loved napping on the couch in her’s while Rob and I were next to her. When mom needs a break from constant rocking/holding- this thing is a lifesaver and she loved it!!

Carters 2 Way Zip Onesies– all my girlfriends told me to get the 2-way zip onesies and they were right! These are so much easier to change during those 3am diaper changes (you don’t have to completely undress baby). We’ve been living in these during the first few weeks of Eliza’s life!

Ball Sucker– I don’t have a formal name for this, but we use it almost daily! When Eliza spits up, we use this to suck out whatever is left in her mouth since she’s not able to spit it all out or swallow it. Kind of gross to explain but one of those things that you don’t know you need until you need it!

Mam Pacifiers (newborn size)– when your baby is crying, “sucking” is a comforting motion for them. Eliza has loved the Mam pacifiers! There are a million brands out there and different babies love different ones, but we love these!

Itsy Bitsy Bow Co newborn bows– I mean, I’ve been dreaming about putting Eliza in bows since the minute I found out she was a little lady! These bows are the perfect size for a newborn, stay on her head, and are soft enough for her soft head! Love them!

Peg Perego Car seat– since we’re not going many places besides the Peditrician and a few quick errands, we find ourselves just grabbing the car seat (usually Eliza is sleeping in it) rather than unfolding the big stroller. We absolutely love the car seat and all of its safety features as well!

Nanit Monitor– we love our monitor! We have started putting Eliza in her crib for her daytime naps, and it gives me such peace of mind to be able to check in on her through the app and to know it will alert me if anything is awry!

Burp Cloths– it’s a fact, your baby will spit up! Ha. This 5 pack of burb cloths has really come in handy!

For Breastfeeding/Pumping:

I’ll be sharing more of our breastfeeding journey soon, but for now these are the things that have already come in clutch!

Medela Pump in Style– I got this pump through my insurance (I believe all insurances offer a free, hospital grade pump) and so far I really like it. I don’t really have a point of comparison, but do recommend it based on personal experience.

Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter– this stuff SAVED me the first 2 weeks of breastfeeding! Your nipples will get so sore and cracked, and this butter will help them to heal quickly. Bonus: it is safe for baby to feed on after using- you don’t have to worry about washing off!

Medela Sanitizing Bags– these make sanitizing your pump parts a breeze! You add water, pop in the microwave, and boom! Sanitized pieces!

For Bottles:

Dr Browns Bottles– Eliza took these bottles with no hesitation, and we haven’t had any issues with nipple confusion, so I think these are a 10/10. Currently we are using the preemie nipples for slowest flow and it’s working well for us.

Boon Lawn– there is a reason this is in every registry! The lawn is the perfect drying space for all your bottle and pump parts! I took the above snap to show y’all how much it holds.

Dapple Bottle Washing Soap– I use this about 10 times a day to wash bottles and get off formula residue – works great!

OXO Bottle Washing Brush– has both the bigger brush for bottle and a built in smaller brush for the nipple. Love!

This is a great list of must haves! I loved our Medella pump. It was a game changer. My son also busted out of all our swaddles. Unfortunately, he actually didn’t like to be wrapped up and cried anytime we did it with him. I know so odd! I hope you and your family are doing well.
