Pulling off the Filter… Let’s Get Real & Raw!

Last week I opened up on my IG stories about wanting to pull off the filter on my life and get more raw and real. I feel like as I was going through my waiting journey I was able to freely share my heart with y’all about so many things- from hope to frustration to disappointment to excitement for what could be- but over the last few years I’ve felt an increasing pressure to either be “perfect” or not share at all. Let’s be honest, a lot of it stems from playing the comparison game on social media and seeing other moms in similar life stages with perfectly clean houses or able to post 2x a day on Instagram or having their babies eating noddles and keto pancakes when I’m trying to get Eliza to keep down a chicken nugget and cheese (ha- but really!). But after having a lot of heart to hearts recently with my mama friends Ive realized that my reality IS “normal” and that sharing about my perceived lack of perfection would actually be freeing for me and validating for other mamas who might be judging themselves against standards of perfection too!

I even struggle mightily with perfection when it comes to the blog and social media. I used to have the time (when I was single) to shoot 13 outfits every 3-4 weeks which would leave me with TONS of content and the “perfect” pictures. Well now if I can shoot 5 outfits in a month or two that’s a win! There’s just not the same time in my life to always have a perfectly edited photo on the ready- and that’s actually kept me from sharing a huge lists of blog posts that I’ve wanted to write about. I have so many things that I’ve been dying to share- more heart things about marriage and motherhood and being a working mom and life changes- but I haven’t because it hasn’t been “perfect” enough. Well perfect stops here, today! While I am still going to shoot fresh content when I can and as I’m able, this is a space to be real, to be raw, to be honest, and to love ourselves exactly where we are at! Am I right ladies?? I’m sure looking forward to it!

Cheers to a fresh, real, raw, honest new chapter where being perfect is fun and all but being real is SO much better!! Because we are all just doing our best and in this crazy ride called life together 🙂

  1. I think real and raw is always best! I never believe it when I see people who seemingly have it all together – no one does. Rest assured that your reality is just like everyone else’s and I truly believe that when we share honestly we help so many others. I used to feel so bad about myself when I’d see other ladies in their 50’s on IG with great looking skin and awesome pics until I realized they are using filters! I make it a point not to do that because I don’t want anyone to feel like I did.
    You go, girl!

Yes to less filter and just more real life! One of the reasons I took a pause from IG is exactly from the fact that everything seemed so perfect and I couldn’t help but feel like I am not measuring up. On a different note, love love love this dress you featured. It is very pretty and the print is so eye catching! I hope your week is going well and happy Wednesday!

I have definitely taken a few breaks from IG for this reason as well! I think it’s so refreshing to see more reality on our social media.
