A few years ago I started picking out a “word of the year” in conjunction with my New Years Resolution & Goals, and I have loved the habit and focus that it brings to my year. In fact, as I’ve moved towards more monthly goal setting and habit focus, I really have ditched the New Years Resolutions and just stuck with a word of the year!
Its really interesting to me that I feel like each year my word of the year “finds” me. Often in reading my Bible or praying about the next year, a word (or this year – words!) pops into my head and I can’t get it out! That’s exactly what happened this year and I’m excited to share my words and how I want them to shape my 2023 with y’all today!

2023 WORDS OF THE YEAR:
CULTIVATE & CURATE
Oh how I am so excited by these dual words and how I hope they shape my upcoming year and help me to build a strong foundation in 2023. I know these words might not be the most “obvious” choice of words of the year, so here is what they mean to me and how I hope they play out in my life:
Cultivate: the planting, tending, improving, or harvesting of crops or plants.
So much has changed so quickly in my life; in less than three years I met the love of my life, got engaged, married (twice!), & had a baby! Every life event has been such a blessing, and now that life has calmed down a little, I want to really cultivate each relationship and title I’m lucky enough to hold in life. I want to pour into my marriage and carve out time for just Rob and I. I want to spend time with Eliza soaking in this hilarious toddler stage and giving her my undivided attention. I want to tend to my friendships and the women who have gotten me through so many wonderful and hard moments in life. Basically I want to cultivate the relationships in my life as best I can!
He who tills his land will have plenty of food,
But he who follows empty pursuits will have poverty in plenty.
(Proverbs 28:19)
Curate: to select, organize and maintain a collection of resources.
In wanting to cultivate deeper and more meaningful relationships with those in my life, the idea of curating goes hand in hand for me. Lately I’ve been looking around and I’ve been overwhelmed by STUFF. I’ve always been a “more is more” person, but it’s lately making me feel bogged down and like taking care of organizing and purging is taking away from all the others areas of my life. When I think about 2023, I really want to prune back the amount of “stuff” in my life and curate a more meaningful closet, home etc. Less buying because it’s on sale and more investing in 1 or 2 items I love!
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
(2 Corinthians 9:6)
